Walk of Fame Nomination Procedure and Guidelines

The MS State Legislature established the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience (MAEE) Hall of Fame in 2001 reserved for those illustrious Mississippi artists that have been nominated and elected into this most prestigious hall of recognition created in their honor. In 2009, the MAEE Board of Directors unveiled a Hollywood-style Walk of Fame.

With the realization that there are many great artists from the state of Mississippi who might not qualify for the Hall of Fame but still have had formidable careers that deserve recognition, the MAEE will honor these artists on its Walk of Fame, which will extend from the MSU Riley Center throughout downtown Meridian’s Entertainment District and to the entrance to the MAEE.  The MAEE, will unveil a maximum of five (5) nominees per year, however, ANYONE can nominate a candidate for the WoF provided they accept responsibility for procuring financing of any stars not selected by the MAEE WoF Committee and approved by the MAEE Board of Directors.

  1. A nominee must have a solid connection to the state of Mississippi, either by birthright, moving to the state at an early age, or living in Mississippi for a significant portion of his/ her career.
  2. The criteria also consist of the following: Professional achievement and unlike the HoF, longevity of career can warrant consideration for the WoF.
  3. Personal Participation – Guarantee that the nominee will be present either at the unveiling ceremony (at nominee’s or sponsor’s expense) at MAEE site in Meridian or at a neutral site within the state where nominee might be appearing if selected at a date and time to be mutually agreed upon between nominee or his/her representative and the MAEE Walk of Fame Committee. An induction ceremony must be scheduled within two years of the selection date or the nomination must be re-submitted. If being posthumously recognized, every effort should be made to contact the nominee’s closest family to invite them to the unveiling ceremony and a letter of agreement from the nominee or his/her agent or management included with application.  Through proper arrangements MAEE WoF stars can be unveiled at special events or in the honoree’s hometown and then later placed in the ground in the WoF.
  4. Unveiling ceremonies are public events.  Honorees and sponsors recognize that, as such, footage and photos of the event are in the public realm.

Cost of MAEE Walk of Fame Star

The cost of a MAEE Walk of Fame Star is $3,500 (not inclusive of the reception).  If selected, the fee is due eight weeks prior to the unveiling ceremony.  This fee is used to pay for the production, shipping and installation of the star and one (1) replica “take-home” plaque as well as maintenance of the WoF and as a contribution to the MAEE 501 (c) 3 charitable organization.  The sponsor of the nominee accepts the responsibility for payment of the $3,500 star installation fee to the MAEE, a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization.

When nominating an individual or group, the sponsor must submit the nomination form, a photo, a bio (including pertinent Mississippi connection criteria), and the nominee’s qualifications.  Applications can be submitted by anyone including a fan as long as the nominee or his/her management/agent is in agreement with the nomination.  If there is no letter of agreement included from the nominee or his/her representative, the application will be rejected.
